Shoes, shoes, wherefore are my school shoes?

This is what I need today and of course there is none in the house. My Mum would say “You are full of the cold”, she’d be right, I ache all over and am a snuffling wreak.

Today is first day back of school. Here is the conversation of last night whilst watching “Extreme Fishing With Robson Green”, yes I know this seems a strange choice of viewing, but Idgy and I really like this show. We know nothing about fishing, not even big fans of Robson, but he is such an over the top enthusiast about this sport that we are both carried along and are on those boats with him hauling on the line and dragging in some weird fish. Wow it’s exhilarating, and really rather funny. Anyway I digress, back to the conversation…..

Me; Have you got everything ready for school tomorrow?

Idgy; Of course, I’m all organised.

Me; Clothes sorted?

Idgy; Yes, yes, yes.

Roll on to this morning.

Idgy; Where are my school shoes?

Me; I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that. You said everything was organised.

Idgy; It is, I just lost my shoes.

Me; Did you have them last night?

Idgy; Yes. Well no. I saw them somewhere.

We search the house. We start with the obvious places; the shoe box by the front door, her wardrobe, my wardrobe (!!), beside the back door. No luck. We move on to the slightly less obvious places; under the sofa, in the cat basket, under the chairs, the window seat. Nada!

Idgy; I’ll just wear my Converse.

Me; You Will Not Wear MY Converse. School shoes are for school, Converse are not, especially mine.

Idgy; You’re no fun.

Have to agree with her this morning. By now I am beginning to wilt and can only see visions of my bed swimming before me. Maybe a wash and brush up will wake me up. I stagger upstairs and am in mid ablutions in the bathroom when something catches my eye.

There is an old basket by the loo full of magazines and books (bath time reading, mostly way out of date), anyway there nestled amid the well thumbed pages peek a pair of black shoes. Not ‘normal’ shoes you understand, School Shoes.

Me; There’s something in the bathroom for you.

Idgy; (Slightly hysterical as school bus due any minute) Stop fooling around, I Can’t Find My SHOES!!!

Me; (Calmly walking downstairs carrying said shoes) Your shoes m’lady.

Idggy; Where were they?

Me; Bathroom basket.

Idgy; Well that was a daft place to put them.

Really am I getting the impression it was meant to be me who put them there.

Aaaargh I give up. I am going back to bed with a cup of tea and a dream of chocolate.

Go away nasty cold….

  1. That’s a familiar story: the clock is ticking and you can’t find the shoes or the car keys or something else important.
After next school vacation you must ask: Clothes and shoes sorted?

Hope the nasty cold went away and that you’re feeling better by now.
    Take care,
